In order to maximize the effects of closing public spaces and to contribute to protecting all from the spread of the COVID-19 virus (which has been labeled a pandemic by WHO on March 11), we believe it is also the responsibility of Koumbit's team to avoid using public transit and physical contact for the next weeks.
With that in mind, the Koumbit collective has decided to focus on remote work and to reduce access to its physical location starting Monday, March 16, at least for the next two weeks.
The impact of this decision on our clients and allies will be minimal:
- Our services remain operational!
- We are still available by phone (514-907-9494), by email and via our IRC channel
- If you had an in-person meeting planned with us in the coming weeks, we will contact you as soon as possible to suggest an alternative (by telephone or video chat)
Open source and remote work
If you would like to work remotely and don't know where to start, don't worry! The free software community already provides several systems that can simply remote work. Here are a few suggestions of platforms and tools that can help with communication and collaboration:
Jitsi Meet (https://meet.jit.si and https://meet.mayfirst.org) - A secure and confidential videoconference that works in web browsers
Dégooglisons Internet (In French only: https://degooglisons-internet.org/fr/list/ ) - a suite of online tools based on collaborative editing, such as:
- Framapad - Text editing
- Framacalc - Spreadsheet editing
- Framadate - Scheduling
We also encourage you to join our public IRC channel: in addition to offering technical support, we regularly share articles from various sources.
Finally, if changes should be applied to our operations based on new information provided on COVID-19, we will of course keep you updated of any decision that should arise as a result of this new information, by publishing new articles on our website.
We thank you for your understanding and your solidarity in these uncertain times.
Warm regards,
The Koumbit collective
